Secretary's report - jody douglas board of directors meeting - august 12, 2007 the meeting was held at 3437 carlin springs road, falls church, va. present: mike enloe, president, elsie smith, treasurer, don catterton, membership chair, jody douglas, secretary, and john douglas, member. nominating committee mike reported that the committee chair, wes fleming, has spoken to several members recently and was putting together a slate of officers to be presented to the board. some members had expressed interest in the vacant government affairs position as well. secretary's report jody would like to work with chris uttenweiler, the webmaster, to ensure that the current minutes are posted on the website, and to complete adding the older minutes. webmaster issues elsie suggested that the ad rates should be posted on the website as well, and don would like to make it clear that members must opt out of the on-line bts if they want a paper copy mailed to their homes. mike will contact chris to arrange some time to work on these issues. treasurer's report elsie reported , 078.25 in expenses in july, and a balance of , 954.42 in the bank. she has delivered the inventory of sale goods to christine bauer, the new sales chair, and received the log-in information for caf press that she requested. inventory mike reported that the club has in stock the gray mock turtleneck, long-sleeved shirt, along with some older rally shirts, stickers, badges and pins. christine bauer will sell some items at meetings and events, and don will get decals and pins from christine for new and renewing members. elsie suggested that patches and pins be accounted for through membership to reduce the club's reportable income. membership report don reported that the number of members requesting paper btss rose from 14% to 19% this month. currently the club has sufficient funds to cover the cost; if that changed the club could institute a small charge to cover the cost of mailing. the few members who do not renew and who indicate a reason generally cite dissatisfaction with forum conflicts or a preference for different club events. however, membership is currently 490, and has remained stable. elsie suggested a brief spreadsheet showing the numbers of full and associate members in january of the last three years would reflect any dramatic changes. upcoming events notification the board discussed having wes fleming list upcoming events in the blanket e-mail that is sent to announce the bts each month. bts changes george falcon will be asked to move the events schedule to the back page of the bts, where it is more easily located, and to add the month and year to the front page.
While the predictive utility of expectancy models has been examined within the alcohol and drug literature, related research in the field of gambling has largely focused on gambling motives. in general, the results of a number of studies suggest that individuals gamble for a variety of reasons. in particular, money, enjoyment, excitement, and social reasons are often cited as primary motivators and thus may be conceptualized as being strong positive outcome expectancies for adolescents and young adults gupta & derevensky, 1998a; neighbours, lostutter, cronce, & larimer, 2002 ; . moreover, while the motives of enjoyment, money, and excitement were highly endorsed by all gamblers, more adolescent problem and pathological gamblers reported gambling to escape problems, to alleviate depression, to cope with loneliness, to relax, and to interact socially with others. however, these positive outcome expectancies may depend on an individual's level of gambling severity. the findings support the need for further exploration of how positive outcome expectancies may vary as a function of gambling severity. adolescents' beliefs regarding the risks associated with problem gambling have not been clearly delineated in previous research. the prevailing belief is that gambling is a mode of entertainment and that it has very few negative consequences winters, arthur, leitten, & botzet, 2004 ; . while the risks of gambling are extremely salient to researchers and clinicians working with pathological gamblers, it is likely that they are perceived quite differently among adolescents. the diagnostic criteria for gambling problems e.g., dsm-iv ; speak to the harm related to pathological gambling behaviors: significant financial losses, preoccupation and chasing behavior, cognitive and emotional turmoil, relational disruptions among friends and family members, stealing and other criminal acts, etc. apa, 1994; fisher, 2000 ; . whether or not adolescents are aware of these negative outcomes, however, remains unknown and online poker real.

The north koreans say will be tantamount to "a declaration of war". they are insisting on face-to-face discussions with the americans but the us government is equally adamant that only multilateral talks will suffice because north korea's nuclear ambitions concern the rest of the world not just the u.s. meanwhile the crisis is ratcheting up with the us sending an aircraft carrier and bombers to the region and north korea is threatening to test fire ballistic missiles. international risk's assessment is: 1. a war remains unlikely. the crisis would appear to have been cooked up by pyongyang, just as on previous occasions, to squeeze financial concessions out of the developed world and north korea's frightened neighbours. us officials argue that the original leaking of the news that pyongyang was resuming work at its nuclear facility was done purely for financial blackmail and that there is still no proof that the north koreans have nuclear weapons. however the possibility that it already has or can soon make them remains north korea's ace in the hole. others suggest that kim jong ii is trying to prove himself as tough as his late father. 2. a significant danger is that war could erupt from a miscalculation. president bush has named north korea along with iraq and iran as his "axis of evil" and has made it plain that once he has finished with iraq, north korea is next on his list. mr bush may well believe he can deal with that impoverished, starving country without going to war but he may inadvertently push the "dear leader" into a situation where the north korean will attempt to unleash his "weapons of mass destruction". 3. in another scenario, he may defy the americans and start up his nuclear production line, forcing the u.s. to use their smart bombs to destroy his nuclear facilities. this would, of course, incur the danger of spreading nuclear contamination to neighbouring countries or outright war. there is little doubt that is what the north koreans are gambling on - that george bush and the japanese will pay up rather than run these risks. this is beyond poker, it is russian roulette played to the extreme. 4. whilst the current crisis has been triggered by pyongyang's nuclear sabrerattling, the harsh reality remains that even if the current crisis is contained in the short term, one way or another; that north korea remains a potent threat through chemical and biological weapons of mass destruction. this is an issue that has yet to be addressed. it is doubtful that the u.s. & japan will let this situation continue for much longer and kim jong il's regime will come to an end the question is not if, but when and learn to play poker or online poker and.

Do different things see also gallistel; chapter 5 discussion, this volume ; . this is typical of any information-processing system, from the oxide particles on a videotape to the letters of the alphabet. in terms of information content, the significance lies in differences in the arrangement of the same elements, which in turn alters the input-output relations that are computed by the device. evolution. the human mind evolved to further survival and reproduction in the huntergatherer environment in which our species has spent almost all of its evolutionary history. many people have trouble understanding how the calculus, physics and chess could have evolved in this environment but the foraging life of huntergatherers requires cognitive skills that could later be coopted for these specialized pursuits. the organisms that make up the human food supply have evolved a huge range of chemical, structural and behavioural defences against being eaten. all organisms develop countermeasures to these strategies but humans are unusual because they occupy the `cognitive niche' tooby and devore, 1987 ; , applying cause-and-effect reasoning to produce novel tactics for defeating the defences, such as trapping animals and cooking or treating plants with chemicals to destroy their toxins. these countermeasures develop within an individual's lifetime, not in evolutionary time like the strategies of plants and other animals. probably equally important, humans have learned to coordinate their actions to accomplish outcomes that individuals could not achieve on their own. many of the illusions, fallacies and maladaptive behaviours that humans display may come from a mismatch between assumptions about an ancestral world, which are presupposed or built into our mental faculties, and the modern environment in which we find ourselves. a simple example is the computation of shape from patterns of shading, one of the tricks that has evolved for transforming the two-dimensional array of brightness values on the retina into a perception of three-dimensional structure marr, 1982 ; . the shallower the angle of a surface with respect and play money poker.

Payoffs in figure 9 are derived from the following simple model due to cournot. the high, medium, low, and zero production numbers are 6, 4, 3, and 0 million memory chips, respectively. the profit per chip is 12 q dollars, where q is the total quantity in millions of chips ; on the market. the entire production is sold. as an example, the strategy combination h; l ; yields q 6 + with a profit of per chip. this yields the payoffs of 18 and 9 million dollars for firms i and ii in the h; l ; cell in figure 9. another example is firm i acting as a monopolist firm ii choosing n ; , with a high production level h of 6 million chips sold at a profit of each. in this model, a monopolist would produce a quantity of 6 million even if other numbers than 6, 4, 3, or 0 were allowed, which gives the maximum profit of million. the two firms could cooperate and split that amount by producing 3 million each, corresponding to the strategy combination l; l ; in figure 9. the equilibrium quantities, however, are 4 million and poker play money.

Inn, from woodrow wilson to george bush. soon after wwii, the inn was in such bad repair that the only reason it was not torn down was the exorbitant cost of the demolition. thanks to the foresight of a dallas businessman and his wife, charles and elaine sammons, the inn was restored in 1955 to its former grandeur and in 1973 was listed on the national register of historic places. with the new restoration that included two modern wings for guests, the inn introduced to visitors the opportunity to experience a true resort. in 1998 the inn invested million dollars to create an ultimate resort atmosphere by adding a spa facility. today, you can still enjoy the extraordinary hospitality of this grand hotel by experiencing a weekend stay. the inn offers romantic packages for couples, some to include room accommodations, exquisite dining, spa services, shopping, to a sports complex that offers golfing, tennis, racquetball, swimming, children's activities and a fitness center. the wide range of entertainment opportunities offered by the inn surpasses any guest's desires. planned weekend events range from big band swing dance, heart of worship celebration, jazz, arts & crafts antique show, comedy, mother & father's day, the inn's 94th birthday celebration to holiday celebrations that include memorial day, independence day, labor day, halloween, thanksgiving, major bear's holiday party and christmas. each event offers a host of fun-filled activities. the inn hosts several other events throughout the year that are sure to delight all visitors with a variety of competitions, including decorated birdhouse, national gingerbread house and dance sport championships. don't forget the real reason to visit the grove park inn this winter: to experience "a weekend of romance for valentines." the inn describes the weekend of feb 9-11, 2007 as "a retreat that both of you will love". Prweb ; july 27, 2005 -- pokerlizard sat down with online poker and star david williams to discuss the poker life and how winning .5 million in the 2004 world series of poker wsop ; changed his life. pokerlizard: in the 2004 wsop, you finished in 2nd place, winning .5 million. how has your life changed since the wsop? david williams: i answer this question a lot. besides the money and the small fame, it really hasn't changed that much at all. i have less worries about my future, i was able to take care of my family and i know everyone will be ok financially. i still do the same thing each day. i sleep late, stay up all night and play poker every day. pokerlizard: you followed up your success at the wsop with a 2nd place finish at the wpt borgata open in atlantic city and won the , 500 limit hold'em event at the five diamond world poker classic. how satisfying was it to prove to the poker community and public that you have skills and weren't just lucky at the wsop? david williams: it was very satisfying. the borgata runner up finish wasn't quite enough in my eyes. i was proud, but felt that i still didn't get far enough. i really felt that i played the best heads up, and made one mistake. winning the limit event at the bellagio actually felt the best. i was so happy to finally have a 1st place. nothing compares to being the last man standing in a tournament, no matter how small. pokerlizard: how different is this years wsop for you? is there any sense of pressure to perform since you're well known? david williams: the only pressure i feel is from myself. i think that is why my results haven't been good at this years wsop. i in some weird "funk" and can't get things going. i feel that i playing well, but i doing something wrong i sure. there is no other explanation for my poor performance at this years wsop. to read the rest of this interview please go to : pokerlizard while you're there be sure to check out the other great interviews, poker book reviews and poker product reviews. pokerlizard is the world's #1 site for free poker chip sets, free poker dvds and free poker books along with the best poker interviews.
Hwy. 395 south in the washoe valley is a cozy little biker friendly watering hole called scotty's saloon. it was here on saturday february 16th the 2008 run season got started. the early morning saw one of those typically sunny, clear, and crisp northern nevada's mornings. a "frosty balls run" days with a bright sunny mornings that evaporated frost on contact with sunlight, dried roads leaving only the hint of a mist and gently coaxed the temperatures into climbing towards the mid 50's by early afternoon. if one was to turns off hwy. 395 and onto east lake blvd. just before descending into the washoe valley, they would find themselves in the cozy seclude little lake side community of washoe lake. there along east lake blvd., nestled between washoe lake shimmering in early morning tranquility with the reflection of the snow covered sierra nevada's on the western side and the, barren windswept slopes of protective hills on the east side, is scotty's saloon, one of those perfect little out of the way pubs we so often hear people talking about but never really catch where they are . scotty's saloon appears at first to be one of those dreary little small town bars where a few regulars kill time sipping warmish beer and munching stale chips & pretzels from dusty little plastic bags, but in this case the look is very deceiving because scotty's is one of those carefully kept secrets where warmth and hospitality, good food and cold beer abound, in a yall come on in and sit a spell, biker friendly environment. by mid day the bone chilling cold had given way to the warmth of the bright sunshine, while temperatures slowly rose into the mid 50's. the "frosty balls run" and barbecue were a p.o.b.o.b. sponsored event and the kick off event for the first run of the 2008 season. scotty's saloon is owned & operated by troy and debbi christensen. the parking lot can quickly fill to overflowing, but not to worry theres bike parking a plenty in the rear. there are always a few pickup trucks & a car or two out front and by noon there's partying a plenty happening pretty near every day. scotty's is one of those biker friendly spots everyone needs to know about. just off the beaten path only a chosen few know about . from the barbecued main course, to the home made salads and delectable side dishes, and the saucy bar maids, everything added up to a friendly setting, but it was only the start of a beautiful day and to an incredibly scenic run. the music, supplied for this event by terrapin road, with gary on guitar & vocals, tony on guitar and vocals, rob on bass and michelle kick in it on the drums . from there many of the riders headed north towards the reno sparks area to attend the big valentines dance at knights of pythias on nevada st. sponsored by the branded few, this put the finishing touches on a great day.
