The problem extends out to our smaller rural communities now and programs have got to be tailored to meet that need. programs that are used in regina and saskatoon may not necessarily be right for our smaller towns, and i hope the government keeps this in mind. mr. speaker, when we talk about food banks we have to talk about those who are using them. accordingly, the regina and saskatoon food banks in 1996, about half of all those coming for their basic necessities in terms of food were children. in 1996, regina food bank saw over 43, 000 children, three-quarters of which were under the age of 12 years old. what kind of life can they be leading, mr. speaker? when one looks at these kind of statistics, we can quickly figure out at least one of the reasons that saskatchewan leads the way when it comes to youth crime. when our children have no hope about their future, when they see no light at the end of the tunnel, it's all too often that they turn to a life of crime. and as we've argued in this house on many occasions during session, once kids do turn to that life of crime this government disavows any responsibility for them. simply because it is a provincial responsibility to set up effective and workable rehabilitation and punishment programs for young offenders, this government sees that as no reason to take away any responsibility. the premier simply says that the legislature has simply too much on its plate to deal with an issue like this. it doesn't matter that people are demanding something has to be done. it doesn't matter that people's property and their safety are threatened by the upswing in youth crime. it doesn't matter that a policeman was almost run down and a young offender was accidentally nearly shot in saskatoon. all that matters to the members opposite is ensuring none of this is put on their shoulders, even though that's where a great deal of the responsibility should lie. mr. speaker, child poverty is one of those issues where all political parties have got to work together in order to find solutions. it cannot be simply used as a political poker card chip. we've got to do something for our youth because they are our future. and so far i haven't seen this government do anything concrete in this province when it comes to this problem. so if you want me to give them a credit for a child poverty rate of 21.6 per cent, i will. if those members want credit for 81, 000 people on welfare in saskatchewan, they can take the credit. and if those members want the credit for 43, 000 children visiting food banks last year, they can have credit for that as well. if that's the credit the members opposite want to take to the people of saskatchewan as a sign of their accomplishments, they can be my guest. mr. speaker, i've listened to the banter back and forth across the floor and really it does make me sad. i guess maybe politics is our job, something that we're expected to do. but when it comes to child poverty, it should be out of the bounds of politics. some hon. members: hear, hear.
On october 21st, the aviation hall of fame & museum held its semi-annual "open cockpit day." the displays included a very rare lockheed bushmaster, a coast guard helicopter, and a cobra gunship helicopter. additionally, the world's only surviving martin 202 airliner was on display. this aircraft was operated by twa beginning in 1950.
Most individuals take pride in their hard earned belongings. whether it is vehicles, boats, property or the home they live in. when people are proud of their possessions, they take extra care to ensure that these belongings are cared for, looked after and are kept clean. it is a positive reflection on the owner, when their properties are well maintained. the same holds true with any organization, group or club. the property, buildings, machinery and vehicles owned by any club directly reflect either a negative or positive image toward the members of the organization, group or club. it is easy to see when there is a lack of pride and or sense of ownership by the overall general appearance of the property owned by a group. as the dyc safety chairperson i have done several inspections of our property and buildings in the last while and i have the following items that not only do i consider a safety concern but reflect poorly on our club. 1. garbage: a. the amount of garbage that is strewn throughout the yard. there is an enormous amount of garbage near the edge of our property and along fence lines or within the trees. there is broken glass, boards, lumber with screws and nails and lumber that is broken and with sharp edges or ends. there are metal parts, drink bottles, cans and dirty soiled diapers. b. garbage that is left after a boat is launched and the trailer or cradle is put away by the dyc staff. members are working on their boats over the winter and prior to going in the water but are neglecting to return to their storage site and clean the site after their boat is moved. c. dyc has two bfi containers. during the summer months one is located near the gas shed and the other is located near the clubhouse. continually the dyc staff are finding garbage bags or open garbage piled on the ground either at the shorefront, near the gas shed or beside the bfi containers themselves. dyc supplies the garbage containers and has the containers emptied on a regular basis but continually people are just leaving their garbage and expecting others to clean up after them. 2. clubhouse washrooms a. members, non-members and contractors are utilizing our washrooms to clean up after they have been working on boats. working with bottom paint or on engines can be a dirty job but when using the dyc washrooms please clean up after. it's only courteous for the next person who uses the facility. 3. pets dyc encourages club members bringing their pets to their boats, but ask that they be responsible pet owners and follow a few simple rules: 1. your pet should be on a lease and under control and not allowed to wander or roam the property. pets must be under control and on a lease at all times. 2. always clean up after your pet. your pets should avoid using the lawn at the shorefront and also the children's play area in front of the clubhouse. during the summer months children play on this lawn area and roll in the grass. children are always playing in and around the play area in front of the club and deuces wild poker.

Today's gathering. we had a great turnout, a wonderful expression of minnesota pride. there were 8 of the 2004 and 2 of classic models when i captured the moment with my digital camera. another 2004 showed up later. a classic owner drove her traditional vehicle instead long story ; . and there were at least 2 in "expecting" owners in attendance. and speaking of waiting, when we should have. starting a hour later for that particular gathering would have really helped. the location was way too busy at 3: 00. it was standing room only, but by 4: 00 had the whole place to ourselves. oh well. since the last of us didn't leave until 6: 00, it wasn't all bad. and i got several compliments about finding that southern location, so we'll plan a better time for the next one there. we had fun regardless. and they'll get much better as time goes on! that nasty cold wind made standing out by the cars all too brief. the summer gatherings offer far more opportunity. anywho, i only had a single regret. people now want copies of my entire website on cd. in the past, that wasn't the case. so once i get all caught up on logs & photos, i'll offer the postal-mail opportunity again. patience for now. thanks to those that attended. future gatherings. prius gatherings of any type are enjoyable. when warm outside, i have lots of spontaneous ones. at stoplights, in parking lots, at the gas station. basically, anything that provides the opportunity to share real-world info in person is great. i'm really looking forward to that type of activity resuming. the plan is continue setting up gatherings of some sort once a month. i'd like to take advantage of a park sometime, barbeques are always worthwhile. the point is to let owners, those waiting for delivery, and those just curious to stop by when they want for as long as they want. parks & coffee shops provide that kind of flexibility. i hope to see more at the next gathering, but i know that won't last for too long. after awhile, prius becomes so normal of a vehicle that participation online ends for many. seeing less and less classics is proof of that. which makes me wonder what kind of influence that has. those owners simply won't settle for anything less. their support for hybrids will be almost fanatical, settling for nothing less with future purchases. and of course, their friends & family will witness firsthand how pleasing of an ownership experience prius actually is. needless to say, at today's gathering i was encouraged share all my observations, in full. so i tend to do the same online. they encouraged me! scary, eh? ; anywho, i'm really looking forward to the next gathering. majority rules? if the majority rules, than the extra up-front cost to purchase a hybrid is meaningless. suvs and "light trucks" have 55% of the market right now. at the auto show this weekend, i paid close attention to the price variances of suv prices. they were just as wide as they are for cars. that's tens of thousands, not just a few thousand as implied. people could so easily pay less. but they aren't doing that. instead, we see the very expensive brands & models being the popular choice. and for that type of purchase, an extra 2 or 3 thousand is nothing. something they couldn't care less about. hybrid suvs will become a serious problem for those arguing against hybrid technology. the extra cost won't mean squat. and the fact that the initial models are configured to out acceleration the traditional design is icing on the cake. a bit of salt i can freely pour on the wound. and i'll enjoy every minute of it. people will be able to purchase a hybrid with the configuration of their choice in the vehicle of their choice. what could possibly be wrong with that? and online holdem poker.
